Biography

The Breakaways Surf Band are a Traditional Surf music band.  We specialize in playing surf songs and surf music of the early 60’s including Pipeline, Wipeout, Walk Don’t Run, Endless Summer, and many of the Ventures and Dick Dale style songs.  Several members of the band were originally in surf bands in the 60’s so combined with our vintage fender equipment, we are a very authentic surf band.

The Breakaways were founded 9 years ago by Craig Skelly and began playing locally in Orange County and donating their services at various charity shows shortly thereafter.  Now they are regulars at Children’s Hospital Orange County, or CHOC, Orangewood Children’s Home, Alzheimer’s Association, Ronald McDonald House, Cops for Tots, Race for the Cure and many others.  The Breakaways have 4 recordings to date, Surf Jam, Cowa-Bongo!, “On the Air” and "Time Surfin".  All the releases received very positive reviews.  "Time Surfin" was released in April of 2004 and is the rave of the surf music community.  See the review in the "Our CD's" section of thebreakaways.com.
